Aug 31, 2012 11:12 PM

Trey Lyles took an official visit to Butler on Friday.

The 6-foot-9 small forward, ranked as a top-10 player in the class of 2013, is likely to visit Michigan State, Illinois, Louisville and Ohio State in the near future.

“It’s a new thing for him to be highly recruited like this, so I want him to learn as much as he can and listen to what is said and what is not said,” Lyles’ father, Tom Lyles said. “So that’s what these visits will be about.”

Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State , Florida, Texas and UCLA could receive visits as well.

Deshaun Thomas Wrestled With Decision To Return To Ohio State

Aug 31, 2012 10:57 AM

Deshaun Thomas changed his mind five times over entering the NBA draft last spring before deciding to return for his junior season at Ohio State.

Thomas was a projected as a borderline first round pick.

“I just sat back one day and realized, ‘I’m going to stay and get better, and I think I can (go) higher (next) year,” he said. “I think I made a great decision.”

Thomas participated in two camps this summer that were scouted by NBA talent evaluators.

“They said my body was great, and they liked that I could score in different ways,” said Thomas, who said he is down to 214 pounds with 7.1 percent body fat. That’s at least 10 pounds lighter than his first two seasons. “I can move better,” he said.

Indiana Extends Offer To Bryant Crawford

Aug 26, 2012 7:28 PM

Indiana extended a scholarship offer on Sunday to Bryant Crawford, a 6-foot-2 sophomore who is considered one of the top point guard talents in the country.

Crawford took an unofficial visit to Bloomington this weekend.

“I got offered by coach (Tom) Crean before I left,” Crawford said. “It was a good feeling. He asked me if I liked the visit and then he asked me if I was being recruited by any other schools in the top five and I said no. And then he told me that I’d just been offered by Indiana.”

Crawford now has offers from Indiana, Georgetown, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Texas and South Florida.

“They’re recruiting me hard,” Craword said of the Hoosiers. “Coach Crean and I have a nice relationship. We’ve talked a lot. He said he’s going to keep looking into me during the basketball season and AAU season. I liked it (the visit) a lot. I liked the campus, the students and the way the players work so hard.”

Stanford Robinson Transferring To Findlay Prep

Aug 23, 2012 11:04 AM

Stanford Robinson, a 6-foot-3 guard who committed to Indiana in May, will spend his final season of high school basketball playing at Findlay Prep, a national power based in Las Vegas.

“I just feel like I needed to advance my game,” Robinson said. “And every night I’ll be going against bigger and better players and I think that’ll help me.”

Robinson did not consult with Tom Crean on the decision.

“This decision was really between my mom and my dad and my little brother,” Robinson said. “We made it as a family decision. We didn’t sit down with anybody to get their take on it. We felt like with the connections and politics in basketball, you never know who you can trust nowadays. We just decided to make it a family thing.”

Ron Patterson Denied Admission To Indiana, Will Attend Brewster Academy

Aug 21, 2012 10:58 AM

Ron Patterson will attend Brewster Academy after being denied admission to Indiana.

“His family just discussed the pros and cons of everything and Brewster will get him ready athletically and academically for that next year when he attends college,” Patterson’s AAU coach, Chris Hawkins said. “It’s just the best situation and he’s not rushing into a decision as far as how late in the game it was especially with school starting. I think it’ll help him next year when he attends another school.”

Patterson has decided to reopen his recruitment.

“It’s back open. A lot of schools have reached out,” Hawkins said.

Trey Burke Focused On Making Teammates Better

Aug 15, 2012 10:54 AM

Trey Burke is focused on providing guidance to his new teammates – specifically incoming freshman Mitch McGary, Glenn Robinson III, Nik Stauskas, Caris LeVert and Spike Albrecht -- on and off the floor.

"I just want to make everyone around me better,” Burke said. “I know that a lot of teams are going to have me at the top of their scouting reports, so it's my job to get everyone else involved and open the doors for everyone else involved. We have a lot more weapons this year. Everyone returning has really worked so hard this summer and the freshman look really good. They should be able to help us. I'm focused on making people better, hitting open shots and running the offense like I did last year. I don't really want to change anything. I just want to play my game is what I am concentrating on the most."

Burke is looking to assume more of a leadership role next season.

"I definitely have to be a leader, especially with me being a floor general,” Burke said. “I have to get everyone where they need to be, not just on the court but off the court as well, and at practice. I have to have a voice this year and it will go a long way."

Cody Zeller Made Significant Improvements During Offseason Program

Aug 10, 2012 12:31 AM

Tom Crean provided an update on the development of Cody Zeller, who left campus for a break between the second semester of summer school and the start of the fall semester.

“When he left, the measurements were as good as they’ve ever been from him. He was squatting 400, he was benching 305. He did 185 (on the bench) twenty-two times, which is incredible,” Crean said. “He came in doing it ten times a year ago, so that’s the kind of jump he’s had in that time frame. He’s grown. He’s a legit 7-foot in his shoes. His vertical has gone up almost three inches since he’s been at Indiana.”

A favorite to win national player of the year and be the top choice in next year's NBA draft, Zeller is gaining confidence in his ability to operate against different defensive schemes.

“I think he’s really bought into the fact that we want to make him the hardest cover in college basketball,” Crean said. “No matter what you’re planning for him when it comes to the double teams or when it comes to how you’re going to guard him, that he has an answer in his own game for that.”

JaQuan Lyle Receives Scholarship Offers From N.C. State, Iowa

Aug 8, 2012 10:39 PM

JaQuan Lyle has received offers from N.C. State and Iowa.

“With the summer that this young man has had, coaches continue to call and be very impressed with every aspect of his game,” Lyle’s High School coach Shane Burkhart said. “JaQuan must continue to build respect on and off the court and remember that none of this will mean a thing if he doesn’t continue to mature as a young man. We are very proud of all his efforts on the court this summer.”

A 6-foot-4 combo guard, the 16-year-old Lyle moved “up a class” for Spiece Indy Heat’s 17-and-under AAU team.

Lyle has offers from Indiana University, Purdue, Illinois, Xavier, Michigan State, Ohio State, Louisville, Kansas State, Providence, Southern Methodist, Georgetown and Texas.
